![]() I feel that all my efforts to help the people at EPM and our clients help make the world a better place. But it’s important to stop once in a while to check in on the most important stuff. And in a challenging market, all the more so. Life can get messy and complex sometimes. It gave me the fuel to help start EPM and to create a positive ripple in the world.Īlthough the road hasn’t always been easy, and I’ve had to learn many lessons along the way, I can honestly say that I would have a different answer to his question if he asked me again. That moment is what put me on the path I am on today. I promised my dad that I would do everything I could to help make the world better, just like he did. It was after my dad learned he didn’t have much time left, and he implored me to do more and be better. My dad once asked me: “Son, if my time ends now, I can honestly say that I’ve left the world a better place than I found it. It’s just a matter of:Ģ: Identifying what you’ll need to do to get thereģ: And having the humility to get started. ![]() If you want to change careers and open a barber shop, you CAN. If you are committed to staying in this industry, you CAN. We need to see what’s working and what isn’t, and we need to take direct steps toward progress. We need time and perspective to re-evaluate. Sometimes, an essential step in the process of growth is to take a step backward. But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t opportunity for us to grow and succeed. Yes, the terrain is a lot more rocky than it has been. And I think that focusing only on limitations is what is hurting a lot of loan officers and leaders. It can be tempting to say the word “can’t” in our industry right now. But if you don’t have the humility to take a step backwards, you can’t do sh*t.” Something Gary Vee said when I interviewed him at a NAHREP conference a couple of years ago has been rolling around in my head recently. That way, on so many levels, we are working together to build a legacy we are all proud of. It’s one of the ways that we can pay forward the American gift of homeownership, financial freedom, and helping every family achieve their financial dreams. And we donate continuously per unit sold. We found organizations that align with our culture and mission. From start to finish, every transaction we help families through contributes to creating a better future for all of us. This came about because we wanted to help everyone see the immense importance of helping one another succeed. It relates to our Choose Kindness campaign, where EPM makes regular donations to charities like the American Red Cross, Leashes of Valor, MBA Open Doors Foundation, and St. We have this #livesnotloans slogan that you’ve probably seen me use. ![]() And I’m honored to be a part of that process. Everything we do every day carries significant weight. Unless they decide to work at it, I don’t think anyone is getting a healthy amount of screen time right now.Įvery loan matters. It’s worth remembering that we must model good behavior to see it in others. I told myself it was because of work, but the honest truth is that it was a bad habit that I wanted to justify. I mean, I was addicted to my phone, full stop. It made me realize that I was getting on my kids’ case for spending too much time on screens, but I wasn’t exactly being a great role model in that regard. And it’s been way more difficult than I want to admit. I recently started working on reducing my phone time– especially right before bed. The question I really have is whether those same parents are paying as much attention to how much screen time THEY get because the average American spends 7 hours and 4 minutes looking at a screen each day. And I’m the same way– I would love for my son to be a little less interested in video games, for instance. Just about every parent I know is worried about how much “screen time” their kids are getting. ![]()
